Lifting The Curtain On Dining | Sun Princess Mediterranean Cruise

Today, we learn about the technicalities from feeding more than 4,300 guests on a ship at sea, as well as the innovations that make it all happen

Day 4 of our 8-day voyage saw Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess pull up in Corfu, Greece. Aside from our port visit today, we also learnt about what goes on to entertain and feed more than 4,000 guests on a ship like Sun Princess.

About Corfu

Also known locally as Kerkyra, Corfu is located off Greece’s northwest coast in the Ionian Sea. The island’s landscape is shaped by rugged mountains and a resort-studded shoreline. Its unique culture and heritage is the result of being ruled by the Venetian, French and British at different points in history, before uniting with Greece in 1864. Corfu Town is flanked by two Venetian forts, and its architecture shaped by its many different rulers.

Today, we visited the Old Fortress, as well as enjoy a nice stroll around Corfu Town.

Behind-The-Scenes — Food & Beverage Showcase; Galley Tour

F&B Showcase — Horizons Dining Room

Sun Princess features an impressive 21 Food & Beverage options to feed its 4,300 hungry guests. Today, we were invited for a showcase of the various food and drink choices that guests can order, as well as learn about the inspiration behind them.

Mr. Carlos Justina — Food & Beverage Director, M/V Sun Princess.

Sun Princess also offers around 200 unique cocktails across its numerous bars — many of which were specially-made for that specific venue. Here’s some of our favourites:

Galley Tour

And it’s time for our Behind-The-Scenes look at where all this delicious food is prepared! The main galley is where most of the ship’s meals are prepared. With the exception of the Specialty Dining venues, this main galley produces the meals for the ship’s main dining venues — Horizons Dining Room (Deck 6 - 8) and The Eatery (Deck 9).

These boilers have a volume of around 120 litres!

And as one special treat — hot and freshly-baked Pastel de Data, or Portuguese Custard Tarts, a specialty from Mr. Carlos’ home country of Portugal!

Dinner & Show Experience — Spellbound by Magic Castle

A collaboration with the famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, Spellbound by Magic Castle aims to blend the captivating world of magic with the art of mixology to create an extraordinary, Victorian-inspired experience.

A full dinner-and-show experience, the complete Spellbound experience takes about 3 to 4 hours. After having dinner at a specially-designated area on Deck 8, Spellbound’s Doorkeepers will bring guests to the secret room, where the next half of the experience takes place.

Once past the secret door, guests are first ushered into the Bar area. Feel free to take a seat, have a few of the specially-crafted cocktails and make yourself comfortable.

Escape from Houdini’s Chest was also featured on our F&B showcase earlier.

And when it’s time, Spellbound’s team will usher guests into the theatre for the show.

Once the show ends, guests return to the bar area. It now serves as a secret, exclusive, speakeasy-like club for guests of that night. Guests can continue to order cocktails and stay up till the bar’s closing at around 12:00 AM ship time. You can guess where we stayed after the show.
