Visiting Taormina; Experiencing Love By Britto | Sun Princess Mediterranean Cruise
We’re keeping today’s tour short, as we have to head back to the ship to dress up for one of Sun Princess’ most “loving” dining experiences

Our next stop on our 7-NIght Mediterranean aboard Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess is Messina, Italy. Located on the island of Sicily, the city is the gateway to our destination — Taormina, about a 1-hour drive away. We’re keeping today’s visit short though, as we also have to return to dress up for our dinner reservation at Love by Britto.
Fun fact: Sun Princess’ Master, Captain Paolo Arrigo, has shared that he was originally from Sicily!
Meeting Our Group
Our meeting point today was at Princess Live!
Heading off the ship now. Interestingly, Sun Princess’ gangways are built-in to the ship itself, and the large shell doors seem to give the crew flexibility on how high or low to place the gangway, based on the quay’s height, and the tide.
From here, we’re going to board the coach that will take us to Taormina.
Touring Taormina
Teatro Antico di Taormina
Taormina is a hilltop town located near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. The town is known for the Teatro Antico di Taormina, an ancient Greco-Roman theater still used today.
We also visited the theatre on a previous trip here!
Trying Local Delights — Cannoli
When in Sicily, one must-try item is Cannoli — a pastry with a tube-shaped shell, made of of fried pastry dough. The Shell is filled with a sweet, creamy filling containing ricotta — a staple of Sicilian cuisine. We went to a nearby Cannoli shop during our free time to savour this local staple.
Walking Around Taormina Town
We also roamed the streets of Taormina Town, and snapped a few more beautiful photos.

Dinner — Love by Britto
Love by Britto is one of the many new concepts to be introduced aboard Sun Princess. Situated at the end of a long corridor of cabins on Deck 17 aft, the restaurant itself is hidden in a pretty unassuming location.
Upon stepping inside though, guests are first “wow”-ed by the breathtaking views. Look straight, and you’ll see the ship’s wake. Look down, and you’ll see the Wake View Terrace and its infinity pool.
The fork has a little heart cut-out, sow we went for this photo.
About Love by Britto
Love by Britto is a collaboration between Princess Cruises and renowned artist Romero Britto, known for his bold, colorful, and joyful style. The experience is described as an art-inspired dining experience celebrating the essence of “Love”, and showcases the artist’s iconic and joyful designs against the backdrop of a boutique restaurant.
The dishes are created with chef Rudi Sodamin - renowned chef and Head of Culinary Arts at Princess Cruises. The art seen in the restaurant, like those on plates and menus, are all created by Mr. Britto. He even created the art for the labels on the champagne bottles!
