Spending A Sea Day On Sun Princess | Sun Princess Mediterranean Cruise

It’s a a full day of sailing until Bar, Montenegro, and this is how we spent our day aboard the newest and largest Love Boat.

We woke up to the beautiful blue waters of the Adriatic Sea outside our balcony, as we began Day 2 of our week-long Mediterranean voyage aboard Princess Cruises’ newest Love Boat — Sun Princess!

Today’s sea day will be the only “break”we get before four straight days of port visits. So we seized the day, and tried out what we could aboard the Sun.

7:30 AM — Morning Walk to Sea View Terrace

We took a walk to Deck 17 Forward, and enjoyed the sweeping ocean views at the Sea View Terrace. The area is surrounded by glass, and gives guests an amazing view of the Sun Princess marching forward through the waves. It’s also great for lounging, with lots of loungers in an open-air setting.

9:00 AM — Breakfast

Starting off our day by fuelling up! We enjoyed a hearty breakfast served at the Horizons Dining Room.

Meals served here are included in every guests’ fare.

12:00 PM — Lunch @ Umai Teppanyaki

One of our favourite cuisines is Japanese Cuisine, so we were excited to try out Umai Teppanyaki.

Here, meals come with food, and a show by the talented chefs.

Umai also offers hot pot as well.

3:00 PM — Pool Time @ Sea View Terrace

After a post-lunch break, we decided to head back to Sea View Terrace to enjoy its pool facilities! We enjoyed a dip in the hot-tubs — much welcome when you’re facing a strong breeze at the front of the ship. We also tried out the swimming pool at Sea View Terrace, which also goes into The Dome.

5:30 PM: Souvenir Shopping @ The Shops of Princess

Just before dinner, we popped by The Shops Of Princess — the shopping arcade aboard Sun Princess. If you’re looking for anything, from necessities to luxury goods, even a souvenir to take home, The Shops has it all. We did some souvenir shopping and got ourselves a Sun Princess ship model.

7:00 PM — Champagne Effervescence @ The Piazza

Tonight is a formal night, as the Sun Princess hosts its Captain’s Reception and Welcome Dinner. Guests were treated to a show with acrobatics and more in The Piazza, as part of the Captain’s Champagne Effervescence.

**7:30 PM — Omakase Dinner @ Makoto Ocean**

Previously known as Kai Sushi, Makoto Ocean is a refresh of the onboard Japanese specialty restaurant. Now spearheaded by renowned chef partner Makoto Okuwa, Makoto Ocean serves up both an a la carte menu, as well as an Omakase (chef’s preparation) menu. This evening, we sampled the Omakase menu, comprising of eight delightful courses.

Here’s some of the highlights,

Sushi Selection — *Buri* (Yellowtail), *Akami* (Tuna), *Hotate* (Scallop) and *Unagi* (Freshwater Eel)

Ora King Salmon Nigiri and Bluefin *Otoro* (Fatty Tuna) Nigiri

The seating arrangements at Makoto Ocean have a rather open and free concept. The venue itself isn’t walled off, and the atmosphere was influenced by the events going on at The Piazza.

Overall, it gave this Omakase experience a relaxed, less-uptight vibe — quite different from the traditional experience, which is usually a very formal affair. We think that Makoto Ocean is a great start for those looking to partake in the Omakase experience. Let’s hope it makes it aboard the Diamond Princess, or any Princess ship sailing around Japan.

10:00 PM: Cocktail Demonstration @ Good Spirits At Sea

Serving up cocktails and the like, inspired by Princess Cruises’ destinations. Good Spirits At Sea has daily cocktail demonstrations at set times. Order a drink inspired by anywhere, from Curacao, Maderia, Oslo or even Mykonos, and you might just be able to see how it’s made. Keep the good spirits flowing.
